Competition Classes
Several competition classes are available, some age based and some 'skills' based, to suit every level of navigational ability and fitness. Each class will compete on a course of the appropriate technical and physical difficultly as described in the Class Selection Guide.pdf. Classes and class details apply to all NAOC and SAGE Sprint, Middle and Long distance events. For the Thomass event the classes will be used for grouping purposes only as all participants compete in one category.
Championship classes (E/A/B)
•Competitors are divided into classes according to their gender and age. Women may compete in men's classes.
•E, A, and B classes are available for both men & women as follows:
-10A, -12A/B, -14A/B, -16A/B, -20A/B, 21E/B, 35A, 45A, 55A, 65A, 75A, 80A
•M/W21 classes: There is no A class for M/W21. The regional championship classes for M/W21 are M21E and W21E (E - elite)
•B classes are for those (under 35) who may prefer a course that is shorter and/or less technical than the corresponding A class.
•Shadowing of juniors is not allowed in A classes
•Shadowing is allowed for 14 & under in B classes. Orienteers 10 & under wanting a B class should register in M12B or W12B.
Open classes
•Open classes are for individuals of any age and for family groups or groups (up to 3 people) that choose not to compete individually in a championship class.

Championships and Awards
•Awards will be given to the top finisher in all classes (E/A/B & Open), regardless of country of origin.
•North American Championship (NAOC) medals will be awarded in each A/E Class (NOT including B classes) to the top three finishers who are Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents (as defined by the Dept. of Citizenship & Immigration) or American citizens or Permanent Residents
•North American Regional Championship awards will be presented in the M/W21E classes to the top finishers who are Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents (as defined by the Dept. of Citizenship & Immigration) or American citizens or Permanent Residents
•Canada 5-Day awards will be given, to the top three finishers (E/A/B), based on the combined score of each runner in each class. Scores for each race are based on finish time relative to the class winner. Canada 5-Day events include the NAOC2010 S/M/L and the SAGE S/M events. All participants, regardless of country of origin, are eligible to compete for the 5-Day awards.
World Ranking Events (WRE)
•The NAOC Sprint, Middle and Long events have been sanctioned by the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) as World Ranking Events. Participants in the M/W21E classes will receive ranking points as defined by the IOF ranking criteria. Entrants in these classes should include their IOF Ranking ID with their registration. WRE Details and Identifiers . Entrants without an IOF Ranking ID will be assigned one at the time of entry.
Entry Fees & Extra expenses
The package price includes five or seven events (including the model event). The packages offer 5% - 7% savings compared to the a la carte pricing. The a la carte pricing allows you to chose individual events.
Important dates
•Up to May 31st, 2010 - Normal registration fees apply
•After May 31st, 2010 - Late Registration (entry fee surcharge)
Category selection is restricted (by number of maps printed)
Late registration for the BBQ may not be available.
•June 15th - Registration closed
Limited on-the-day entry *may be* available after this date.
On the Day entry
There may be a very few on-the-day entries available. We can not guarantee availability, but if you want to take a chance, please visit the results area to see if there are any maps available. On-the-day entries pay the late registration fee.
Cancellation & Refunds
In the event you should cancel your entry, we’ll refund 100% less $20 if the cancellation is received in writing before June 1st and 75% if received before June 15th. No refunds will be given after June 15th.
Membership
For insurance purposes all participants must be a member of a recognized provincial orienteering association or national orienteering federation to take part in any of the NAOC or SAGE events. Purchase a Kootenay Orienteering Club membership.
Waiver of Liability
All entrants must complete, sign and have witness of Release of Liability Waiver prior to participating in any of the events. Waivers may be downloaded in advance but must be signed and witnessed at the registration center.
Teams
Teams of two or three are welcome and can compete in the Open categories. Teams pay one entry fee plus $5 for each additional map (one map per team member is recommended). Teams require just one SportIdent card (see "electronic punching" below). All team members must hold valid membership.
Electronic Punching
All events use electronic timing. There is a small charge of $3/event to rent SportIdent cards if you don’t have your own.
Shadowing
For parents who wish to shadow their children, please note that shadowing is free. Pay race entry fees only if you will be racing yourself. Shadowing is not allowed on the "A" classes.
Protests
Any protests must be lodged, in writing, within 60 minutes of completing the race. A fee of $30 will be charged for protests and will be refunded if the protest is upheld.
Tech-shirts
A commemorative shirt, moisture wicking and quick drying is available for $25. Ladies (blue) and men’s (tan) cut are available.
